How we helped them:
Coinciding with New York Fashion Week, BML-Blackbird teamed up with Refinery29 to provide lighting, audio, video, staging and power distribution services for the 29Rooms 2016 event in September of 2016. Inspiration for the event came from style, beauty, film, wellness and culture in an effort to inspire visitor involvement and consumer content creation.
Refinery29 was seeking a vendor that could help accentuate their creative visions for an interactive and highly shareable playground, and we were happy to help. Our team was able to contribute to the event’s creativity and artistic approach while encouraging visitor participation by reimagining the 70,000 square foot warehouse in Brooklyn, NY.
In June of 2016, BML-Blackbird was honored to be a part of the large-scale closing ceremony for the COPA America tournament at MetLife Stadium which included a live performance by Pitbull. The event required a trusted partner with halftime show experience to facilitate a large build in a limited time. Our expertise in handling major events on grass without damaging the field or interfering with the game (which comes with many challenges) was a perfect fit.
We worked together with Fivecurrents, a creative and production firm in California, to bring their impressive staging, lighting and video design to life. The customized stage built and engineered by our team featured over 100 LED panels, over 150 LED/moving light fixtures all on seven rolling structures, which we successfully got onto the field, in place and wired up and ready for performance in six minutes.

The Altman Building is a landmark historic venue boasting 14,000 square feet over two floors. Each year, The Altman Building hosts various private events from weddings to conferences to activations and fashion shows. As such, they require a partner capable of keeping up with this busy space and we are happy to help. BML-Blackbird provides them with all necessary supplemental labor and services including lighting, video, audio and staging. We work hand-in-hand with the Altman team to ensure that their clients are provided the best level of service possible. This has been wonderful relationship and one that we look forward to continuing for a long time to come.
How we helped them:
In June of 2015, BML-Blackbird provided full-service technical event production for Insomniac at the EDM Biz conference in Las Vegas. The conference grew in the past two years from 450 to more than 600 attendees. This year, the event included high-profile speakers such as Austin Kramer from Spotify and CEO of Billboard, John Amato. It also drew rising artists such as Krewella and Nicky Romero.
Insomniac needed a strong technical event production company that could handle it all, and after we handled the technical production so seamlessly for them last year, they knew we were the right fit. This event was a large expo combined with a conference, all happening at the same time under one roof.
Over the course of the two-day event, we provided innovative lighting and drape solutions, comprehensive audio and video services as well as production coordination. In addition to the work in conference, we utilized our audio and video expertise, to construct a Delta Airlines DJ booth that became one of the focal points of the event.

BML-Blackbird helped the music-festival culture of New York start the summer off right with 3 days of production magic at the 2015 Governors Ball Music Festival at Randall’s Island Park in New York City. 20,000 people gathered during the first weekend of June to witness Drake headline on Friday with a career-spanning set. Innovative DJs Rustie and Flying Lotus carried the hyped crowd through Saturday and Sunday welcomed a true veteran to wrap up an unforgettable experience – Weird Al Yankovic.
After successfully working the annual event since 2013, we became the festival’s go-to for technical event production needs because of our strong knowledge of the festival grounds. For months leading up to the big weekend, our Project Manager worked closely with the client every step of the way to make sure all of the stages and needs were taken care of seamlessly. We’re happy to report the festival went off without a hitch.

In February of 2016, BML-Blackbird provided full-service technical production support for Nautica Men’s Fall/Winter 2016 show at Skylight Modern during New York Fashion Week. Our lighting, audio, video, staging, risers and communication services helped Nautica to create an environment for their attendees that supported their theme, “Inspired by the sea, designed in the city.” We worked with lighting designer Ben Stanton to create the perfect atmosphere for attendees with Nautica’s theme in mind.
Nautica came to us looking for a vendor that could handle multiple disciplines along with fashion experience, and we were happy to provide a full-service solution that accentuated their creative vision. Our team was praised for the flawlessly executed technical services that contributed to the success of the show.
How we helped them:
In October or 2016, BML-Blackbird collaborated with Refinery29 to provide full-service technical event production support for their symposium event, “Every Beautiful Body.” Our lighting, audio, video, staging and power distribution services helped Refinery29 to create an environment that enlightened, empowered and challenged women to trigger a seismic shift towards body representation in the mainstream media. Refinery29’s event was in partnership with Lane Bryant and Aerie and acted as the launch event for their movement, “The 67% Project.”
Refinery29 came to us looking for a vendor that could help them reimagine a raw venue space in NYC. As a technical event production company with years of experience in the fashion world, we were happy to provide a full-service solution that accentuated their creative vision. Our team ensured the symposium looked flawless and represented a space where the 400 women in attendance could be empowered to make a change.

For the past eight years, BML-Blackbird has worked with the International Conference of Chabad Lubavitch Shluchim producing their annual Gala Banquet in Brooklyn. With a guest list of over 5,000 people, the event is held in a warehouse. Transforming this raw space into a banquet hall is a substantial undertaking.
BML-Blackbird helps to do just that by providing all lighting, power distribution and rigging. Producer David Scharf, Event Designer Ronen Peled Hadad and Lighting Designer Alon Cohen create a stellar multi media environment. Equipment used to convert the space included over 430 fixtures and 2000 feet of truss with rigging. In addition to the sizable lighting build, we provided things such as power distribution for lighting, audio, video, practical lighting, computers, translation booths and a kosher kitchen serving 5,500 dinner guests.
The expertise of our staff has resulted in a successful event year after year, forming a great professional partnership.
How we helped them:
Over the past four years, BML-Blackbird has developed a strong working relationship with the International Rescue Committee (IRC). By way of background, IRC responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and is committed to helping people survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and in 22 cities across the U.S., IRC’s mission is to restore safety, dignity and hope to thousands of people as they lead them out of harm’s way to home. IRC continually endeavors to raise awareness through fundraising events and other high-profile promotional ventures.
BML-Blackbird has successfully provided technical production support on multiple events for IRC, including the annual GenR Summer Party for the past four years and the past two IRC Freedom Awards. IRC has chosen to collaborate with BML-Blackbird on a regular basis because they have confidence in our abilities and trust us to complete each job in a thorough and professional manner. Time and time again we have productively fulfilled all expectations.
Over the years we have assisted IRC with event management and lighting as well as audio and staging services at a variety of venues. Many of these venues are unique spaces that have complex layouts or feature other unusual production challenges.
The IRC Annual Freedom Award Dinner is one of the year’s most anticipated events with 1000+ high-profile guests in attendance who support the IRC and are committed to the organization and its initiatives. The size of the event involves many logistical challenges and technical set-ups that include video presentations, speeches by various Heads of States and performances by renowned musicians.
BML-Blackbird has become a dependable partner to IRC and they have come to rely on our experienced Production Managers. Despite the fact that the venue for the Freedom Awards already has an in-house production company, our team was asked to manage this event and we have been happy to comply. We arrange coordination with the in-house crew to ensure safe and adequate equipment and offer assistance with stage management on the day of the event.
How we helped them:
In 2010, the New York Jets approached BML-Blackbird to produce several events during the season, the highlight of which were the season’s home opener on national television and the halftime show on Thanksgiving Night. Needless to say, we had quite a large crowd to please.
For the home opener, which featured Green Day and the cast of the Broadway Hit American Idiot, we specifically designed a staging solution to pull off the huge feat. There aren’t many companies that can move a world renown rock band onto an NFL field, have the lighting and sound TV broadcast-quality and break down the stage, all in less than 13 minutes. Well, BML-Blackbird can, and we did it all again on Thanksgiving night for the Rock of Ages Halftime Spectacular.
In 2011, we were also the ones to produce the unforgettable 9/11 Tribute at the Home Opener.
In addition to wowing audiences across the nation, we have provided sound, stage and lighting for rallies held in New York City, at the New Meadowlands Stadium and the Jets’ facility in Florham Park.

Exposure joined forces with BML-Blackbird during the summer of 2010 to handle the production of a free concert tour in NYC as a marketing promotion for the new Microsoft KIN. While the new technology didn’t exactly make a lasting impression with users, performances by the Ting Tings and Passion Pit sure did. We provided custom light, staging and sound solutions to meet each venue, such as The Classic Car – an untraditional concert venue to say the least.
Over the years, we’ve also worked with Exposure on a number of other events, shows and installations.
How we helped them:
We have been a regular at this industry trade show since 2007. In 2012, more than 2,500 event industry professionals converged on Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in NYC to share ideas and inspiration, network and educate themselves on the latest trends in the industry. BML-Blackbird was not only privileged to be an exhibitor, but we handled all production elements throughout the conference.
We provided all lighting, video, audio and staging for conference presentations, including the first Event Innovation Forum with a presentation from 20 thought leaders, influencers and innovators. This conference gave us big shoes to fill, with expert eyes analyzing every detail. Our success in 2012 has led us to be actively involved in the annual trade show every year since.
How we helped them:
In 2011, we teamed up with NCompass International, a global experiential marketing agency based in LA, to produce a high-profile launch of Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure at Guastavino’s in NYC. They called on our experts to create the experience after only being in the space one time for the site visit. We made our recommendations and worked together to develop a proposal that met their goal. And when the key product reveal – the most crucial part of the event – wasn’t working as planned, we helped them locate the piece of equipment they needed to make their reveal successful just in the nick of time.
It’s been a great partnership ever since. Our relationship with NCompass has only grown stronger and we’ve worked together on multiple other corporate events and game launches.
